How to Spend Less Without Missing Out

Travel June to November

Same sunshine, still outside the hurricane belt, but hotels and flights drop well below the December to April peak.

Eat where locals eat

A plate at Zeerovers or a food truck costs a fraction of a resort dinner and is often better. Mix in groceries for breakfast.

Rent a car only when you roam

Skip the daily rental. Get a car for the two or three days you want Arikok or the north coast, and go car free the rest.

Groceries and Self-Catering: What to Expect

A condo or a room with a kitchenette changes the food math completely. The surprise for most visitors: grocery prices in Aruba are closer to US mainland levels than the restaurant bills suggest. The tourism authority puts groceries around 5 to 6 percent above US prices because nearly everything is imported, and crowd-sourced Numbeo data (updated June 2026) actually has the staple basket almost level with the US average. Eating breakfast in and dinners out is the classic Aruba budget play.

The main supermarkets

Super Food Plaza in Bubali is the big, US-style store closest to the Palm and Eagle Beach hotel zones, about a 5 minute drive. Ling & Sons in Oranjestad is the long-running gourmet-leaning option roughly 8 minutes from the strip. Both open daily (Sundays with shorter hours) and run online ordering. A 24-hour convenience store, Uni Casa, sits inside the Palm Beach zone for forgotten items, at convenience-store prices.

Where locals stretch a florin

Kong Hing in downtown Oranjestad has kept staple prices low for decades, Super Do It Center & Groceries in Noord doubles as a value grocery, and PriceSmart is the island’s warehouse club (visitors can shop with a one-time pass for a checkout surcharge). Dutch brands, the Gouda, chocolate, and biscuits, are consistently cheaper than the equivalent US imports on the same shelf, so shop the Dutch side of the aisle.

The free wins

Tap water is desalinated seawater that meets WHO drinking standards, so skip bottled water entirely, one of the easiest savings on the island. Fresh local produce shows up at the monthly Piedra Plat farmers market (first Sunday) and the Saturday morning STR Farm market. Aruba Budget FAQ

How much does a week in Aruba cost for two people?+

A typical mid range week for a couple lands around $4,000 to $6,000 all in, covering flights, a Palm or Eagle Beach hotel, food, a few tours, and a couple of car days. Budget travelers can come in well under that, and luxury resorts push it higher. Use the calculator above to match it to your own plans.

When is Aruba cheapest to visit?+

June through November is the value window. You get the same sunshine and the island still sits outside the hurricane belt, but hotels and flights are noticeably cheaper than the December to April peak. Booking a few months ahead helps in any season.

What is the biggest cost in an Aruba trip?+

Usually the hotel, then flights. Where you stay and which season you pick move the total more than anything else. Food and tours are easier to flex up or down once you are there.

How can I save money in Aruba?+

Travel in the June to November value season, eat at local spots like Zeerovers instead of only resort restaurants, rent a car only for the two or three days you actually explore, book tours online ahead of time, and lean on the free things to do. Four of our favorite experiences cost nothing.

Are there hidden fees I should budget for?+

Budget $20 per traveler for Aruba’s sustainability fee, collected when you file the required ED card at the official portal edcardaruba.aw (residents, children under 8, on-duty crew, short transit passengers and anyone re-entering within one year of their last visit are not charged). Then budget taxi fares in cash, tips at restaurants, and check whether your hotel adds a service charge and tourism levy to the nightly rate. Checked September 12, 2026.
