The Story Behind the Playbook

We're a small team of island locals with deep Caribbean roots. Our connection to Aruba runs through years of living here and a network of local friends, dancers, cooks, and operators, that opened our eyes to the island beyond the tourist strip. Through those friendships we know an Aruba most visitors never see.

We're trained to notice what others overlook. The hidden cove where the light hits differently at sunset, the family-run restaurant on a side street with the best keshi yena on the island, the quiet stretch of coast where you won't share your towel space with anyone.

We work with a lot of Dutch travelers, so we understand both Dutch and Aruban cultures and know the Amsterdam-Aruba route better than most travel agents. Whether you're flying KLM from Schiphol or arriving from anywhere else, we've mapped out everything you need for an unforgettable trip, in English or Dutch.

Aruba Playbook is the guide we wish existed when we first started exploring the island. Honest, detailed, and built from real experience. No generic lists copied from other sites. Every beach, restaurant, and activity has been personally vetted, and every recommendation comes with the insider knowledge that only local connections can provide.

Who We Are

Why Trust This Guide

Real experience, local expertise, and a commitment to honest recommendations.

Real Experience on the Island

Every recommendation comes from firsthand visits, not recycled travel listicles. We have explored Aruba from the rugged north coast to the calm southern shores.

An Eye for Hidden Beauty

We spot the overlooked coves, golden-hour viewpoints, and photogenic corners most guides miss entirely, then tell you exactly when to be there.

English & Dutch Travelers

We know the Amsterdam-Aruba route inside out. Flight timing, what Dutch travelers specifically need to know, and plans delivered in either language.

Local Connections & Partnerships

Through a network of local friends and operators, we have access to authentic cultural experiences and off-the-beaten-path recommendations.

How We Test and Review

The rules every recommendation on this site has to pass before it gets published.

1

We go ourselves

Beaches get walked, restaurants get eaten at, and tours get taken or booked for people we know before they earn a spot. If we have not experienced something, we say so or we leave it out.

2

We verify prices and ratings against live data

Tour prices and review scores on this site come from current Viator listings, not from memory. When we cannot verify a rating, we show none at all rather than invent one.

3

We remove what goes stale

Example from June 2026: during a routine check we found one of our listed kiteboarding tours had quietly gone inactive on Viator. We replaced it with the operator at Fisherman's Huts the same day and corrected the price.

4

No pay-to-play, ever

No restaurant, hotel, or tour operator can pay to appear here. We earn affiliate commission on some bookings (disclosed below), but commission rates never decide what we recommend.

Transparency

How We Verify Content

The specific standards every fact on this site has to meet before and after it is published.

1

Prices

We do not publish prices we have not verified on the operator's booking page or via direct contact. Prices are marked with the month they were checked. When a price changes, we update the page before sharing the link again.

2

Restaurants and businesses

We do not report a restaurant or business as open unless we have confirmed this in the last 6 months via a visit, a direct call, or a confirmed recent report from someone on the island. Permanently closed businesses are removed, not archived.

3

Tour operators

Tour operators linked from this site are ones we have either used ourselves or have been verified by people who have used them within the last 12 months. We check that each operator remains active on its booking platform before any article is published or substantially updated.

4

Things we have not personally seen

Where we have not personally visited something, we say so and explain our source. We do not write "we recommend" about a dive site, a restaurant, or a tour unless at least one member of the team or a trusted local contact has been there recently.

When we last checked

Every page shows an “updated” date. That date changes only when we have re-verified at least one key fact, not when we make a grammar or formatting edit. The most frequently updated pages are the ones with volatile data: entry requirements, taxi rates, hotel prices, and tour costs.

How we test tours

We join tours as regular paying customers. We do not accept free tours in exchange for coverage, and operators cannot pay for a “worth it” verdict. When we give a recommendation it is based on what a typical visitor would experience booking the same tour today. Viator affiliate links are disclosed; they are booking facilitators, not editorial endorsements in exchange for fees.

What we don't do

  • x Sponsored posts or paid editorial
  • x Hotel stays accepted for reviews
  • x Pay-to-appear listings of any kind
  • x Statistics without a named, verifiable source
  • x “As seen in” logos that are not live and verifiable

What We Stand For

Authentic Recommendations

Every restaurant, beach, and activity we recommend has been personally vetted. No pay-to-play listings.

Local Knowledge

Our content is informed by real connections on the island. Beyond the resort strip and tourist traps.

Honest & Transparent

We clearly disclose affiliate partnerships and never let commissions influence our recommendations.

Community First

We support local businesses, sustainable tourism, and the vibrant Aruban community that makes the island special.

Affiliate Disclosure

Aruba Playbook participates in affiliate programs with trusted travel partners including Viator and Travelpayouts. This means we may earn a small commission when you book through links on our site, at no extra cost to you.

These partnerships help us keep this resource free and continuously updated with fresh content. Our recommendations are always based on quality and value, never on commission rates.

We only recommend products and services we genuinely believe will enhance your Aruba experience. If something isn't worth your time or money, we won't recommend it, regardless of the affiliate opportunity.
